Commissioned as a lovely Christmas present for a grandmother that ‘already has everything she wants', the old black & white photograph was an ideal resource to produce a narrative picture.

The toy telephone in the babys' hand symbolises the connection between the observer and laughing children.

For the warm atmosphere of this painting I chose an

analogous colour scheme i.e. colours that are situated close to one another on the colour wheel – in this case muted red (the red-brown sanguine pencil) and beige yellow (the beige pastel paper).  previous...
