Devils Den is a
Neolithic burial chamber (also known as a dolmen) located on Fyfield
Down in Wiltshire which is known for being littered with large sarsen
stone boulders. Ancient peoples used local stone to construct
their burial chambers, consisting of several uprights with a capping
stone.
I variously sketched
and photographed this site on a blustery spring day with large cumulus
clouds sweeping wintery showers across the rolling downs.
This view in particular
made for an evocative contrasting image of the stones framing a 19th
C barn in the distance.
