A beloved father and grandfather renown for his cheery disposition. Alf loved playing games at the kitchen table after dinner with his 8 children and is particularly fondly remembered by his grandchildren for his love of tending roaring fires on cold winter days and nights.

For added interest I decided to use a complementary colour scheme for this monochrome portrait and instead of using the usual black and greys on white I opted for a muted purple pastel pencil on a creamy yellow pastel paper.

Common complementary colours are yellow & purple, red & green and blue & orange. Using these colour schemes can add a different dimension to monochrome work.
