Around Christmas time I was singing ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. I love painting animals and was seized by the urge to paint the pretty and charismatic Red-legged Partridge that can be seen strutting around England’s open farmland.

I didn’t realise the irony of my choice to paint the Red-legged instead of the Grey partridge until I discovered that both the Red-legged partridge and the song were originally introduced to Britain from France.
